Servicing by milage or the computer

I am due for a cam belt change on my next service, 120k, however the onboard computer is now beeping and flashing up saying to service now. The milage is at 18.5k

Should I wait till 120k or get it done asap? Is this normal?

I would get it done Mate, or the next couple of thousand miles will feel like Russian Roulette, Besides you will kick yourself if the belt lets go

I think that the computer is set to indicate service at 18k. My service book says 20k for long life, but the workshop manual says to program 18k when resetting the service indicator.

The longlife service interval is 30,000 km which VAG UK convert to 20,000 miles but the display can count so it converts it to 18,000 km. (Should be 18,750 km). That's why we have confusion about 20,000 miles and 18,000 miles.:D
