warning lights missing on dash 1.9tdi

i have a 2000 w reg fabia 1,9tdi 100 and the engine management light abs light and asr are all missing and never appear even when turning ignition on, also it beeps three times indicating a fault, now is there a fault or is the instrument panel playing up i have used vag com a beginner though and could not get it to read any modules at all. but if the ecu was fried the car would not function would it, the car drives fine although i have not tested the abs yet, any comments welcome

take the dash out and make sure they are there,i think from memory that the early type had replaceable bulbs
