I hope this does not duplicate any other posts. I'm possibly going to buy a VW Vento which is low mileage and very keenly priced. It's a 76k TDi with the 90 hp 1Z engine.

What are the common faults with these? What should I look for when assessing whether to buy the car?

And is it possible to get a bike in the back with the seats folded down?

How economical are they in the real world?

Thanks
Ed

Well, thanks for the advice guys! ;)

I've gone ahead and bought the car. It passed it's MOT with some advice - a loose lower wish bone, loose strut tops and a couple of loose bushes on the rear.

It needs a bit of tidying - it has an aftermarket home respray wing and although it doesn't look that bad, I would like to fit an original. A slight scrape on the near side wheel arches, a slight dent in the bottom of one of the doors.

Should I endeavour to turn it into a minter or should I just drive it?

It's got a tidy interior, goes well, feels solid and overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.
