Can anyone help as this is driving me mad as well a s being embarrasing. I've got a mk3 20l 16v and it has totaly lost all its power. It's always been serviced as it should, timing belts etc... but it has less go than a 1.4l. I've had it check at VW and they can't find any faults, even though when they drive it they say theres no power. I've been told by a vw specialist that it could be the am chain as its done 145000 miles and its probably stretched? Any help or advice greatly appreciated.:aargh4:

It could be alot of things but you need some feedback from the engine. You need ignition timing, emmisions, fault memory, and fuel pressure. Now dont start replacing everything but on the 16v the woodruft use to wear away on the crank and the timing would alter when loading the engine.Again dont take that as a diagnosis but consider it,also the fuel filter isnt recommended in service schedule but corosion occurs from poor fuel over the years and the pressure is reduced.Only use the vw part not after market.More madness to come i suspect.Regards Jon
