Hi, just a quick update, I don't pile on the miles like james_tiger_woo

Car was set to T&D from factory
20,000 mile T&D service £200 (using LL oil)
Used about 600ml of oil since last service
Mechanically reliable in the past 10,000 miles
Rattle update

Something in the passenger door (stops when arm rest pressed)
Something in the boot parcel shelf area
Ticking noise from B pillar (temp related)

New front tyres at 14,000 (Bridgestone) with the back swopped to the front
Alcantara seats wearing fine
40mpg average over the past 10,000 miles

Yep - i can understand that.

My 225/45/17 RE050's have 9.6k miles on them and they look worn. Even wear but certainly more than half their useable depth has gone. And i've only 105bhp, never spun the wheels and a lot of my miles are dual carriageway and major A roads so very little corner scrubbing.

I got 22k out of the Bridgestones on my FN2 Civic Type-R so I'm amazed you'd only get 14k out of the fronts on a Golf doing what appears to be fairly mainstream driving.

I got about 20k (I think it was) out of my fronts and they're on the way out, but as it's a company car, I'll have to wait until they're borderline illegal before I can replace them.

The rears are still happy at 30odd k (I've no idea what my current mileage is TBH) but god they're noisy....

Couple of points;

1. There's probably a bit more low down torque compared to the Civic, so easier to be harder on the tyres when pulling off

2. My is used as a commuter car, mostly A-roads, so more stop/start compared to long motorway runs

3. They were changed 'early' at 2mm, see

http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/adviceandinformation/vehiclesafety/tyresafety/tread-depth.aspx

4. Bridgestones are pretty soft, I've got more from Primacy's on a MK5 (another TSI)
