As you all well know, Monday was the release day for the new iOS for the iPhone.

After updating my phone (3GS 16gb) has been rather slow at loading from the passcode screen and the numbers lag as you input them. Also apps such as Facebook, MSN etc. Sometimes apps and emails would crash and close. It also takes up to 2 minutes to switch on :S All this has happened after upgrading to iOS4 and never happened before.

Is there anyway to revert back to 3.1.2? Or maybe a full restore is needed?

Hi Chris,
I got the same issue... At first everyone was running ok but now some apps are running slow and crashing.

Facebook is ok but I have a issue with IM+ all the time.
I guess the developers will fix this issue with.

I think the only way to downgrade the OS is to restore but make sure you have a back-up saved as you should be able to put everything back on.

Sounds like there have been a lot of problems with the IOS upgrade, and as I understand it there is no rollback option without jailbreaking the phone (but don't hold me to that). I've been avoiding doing the update.

Could be worse... You could have already bought a iPhone 4.

Seems as if it does not affect them all

Hmm maybe once all the 'early day' problems are resolved I might buy one but its not for me at the minute

I had a look at one on Thursday afternoon and didnt really see what the fuss is about? I know the screen, camera and processor etc. is better but is it really worth whatver is costs?

Yes, you can definitely roll back to iOS 3 - here' s a good link:

My wife's 3G was really, really slow on 4, and had quite a few problems. My 3GS was a lot better, so I am perservering.

(No, I'm not rich enough to buy two iPhones - I get one for work, and when I got the 3GS I was able to keep my old one for my wife :D)

The downgrade went really well. Unfortuantely, we didn't have any old backups from when it was on 3, they had all been overwritten. However, I just restored it to originical, and reloaded the apps - all good.

nc7503, interesting you have had issues - we run around 150 Blackberries and so far around 24 iPhones, and the BB's gives us far more problems, and seem more likely to break. The iPohne 4 isn't released down here yet, but as soon as it does I hope to have my order in! Perks of the job. :D

Thanks for that .. Got it rolled back this morning .. Plus I had backups saved when it was on 3.1.3 .. No more crashing/exiting apps etc.

Dont miss the multitasking but miss the home screen wallpaper :(

But, all is good :D

Cheers!

Pleased it went well, and thanks for the thanks!

What a few of us at work have found - if you upgrade to v4, and DON'T restore from backup, it seems to fix the issues. You lose your data (like those all important high scores!) and have to load all your apps ec again, but it does seem to end up a better install.

Just done that tonight on my 3Gs, and seems to have fixed an occasional issue had with Safari hanging.

Yeah got it with no problems .. The developers have a lot of bugs to fix and hopefully these will be rectified in the next update.

I would die if I lost my high scores especially Doodle Jump and Tap Tap I must admit :P

Thanks again

Chris
